Blessings in a Backpack provides healthy meals to all students in the Green Local Schools Pre-K through 12th grade who are at high risk of hunger over the weekends. During the 2018-2019 school year, we served 231 students. During the summer of 2019, we began our “Summer Blessings” program. Any family in our Green community who feels that they need help in providing food for their children can sign up to receive food boxes at the end of every month. Want to help? Please place all donated food in the cabinet labeled "Blessings in a Backpack" in the Gathering Space. We meet to pack the backpacks in the maintenance garage at the Intermediate School across the street from the church. Packing days are announced in the bulletin or contact Jennifer Doerrer.
THANK YOU for all your support! Without Queen of Heaven’s support over the last seven years we would have been unable to service EVERY child who has come to us for food. Items needed for donation during the school year: pasta in a can, individual apple sauce or pudding cups, hearty soups, oatmeal, individual cereal cups or boxes, peanut butter, mac and cheese, low salt ramon noodles, canned vegetables, beef stew, and individual cups of fruit.
As many of you are aware we are running our first summer food program this year called "Summer Blessings." This summer we are supporting children in the Green community who are at high risk of hunger. We serviced 88 children who would have been hungry in June and expect even more in July. We are SPECIFICALLY in need of donations for our summer program of large apple sauce jars (48 ounces) and jelly. Other items needed for the summer program include: Beef stew, pasta in a can (SpaghettiOs with meat balls), peanut butter, pasta/egg noodles, spaghetti sauce, and tuna fish. Place the donated food in the “Blessings in a Backpack” cupboard in the Gathering Space. Any donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated. Packing dates are July 18th and August 15th both at 9:00 am in the maintenance garage at the Intermediate School across the street from the church. For more information please feel free to contact Jennifer Doerrer at [email protected].
