Queen of Heaven Society of St. Vincent de Paul comprises of an array of parishioners that represent all age groups, interests and skills. Our commonality is helping the poor in southern Summit County and those down on their luck. This translates into assisting with utility and rent payments, allocations for food and other emergencies.
Each person or family we assist is first evaluated during a home visit. During these visits we discuss their financial predicament, make suggestions and propose our assistance. At times we will engage in a spiritual discussion and provide information regarding Queen of Heaven’s Mass and Confession schedules. In the past year we made 48 home visits assisting over 120 people.
In addition to home visits we coordinate The Giving Tree (at Christmas) and Back to School programs. We also volunteer at the Fr. Hilkert Ozanam Center on a Saturday every other month) which is an outreach of greater Akron area Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The Ozanam Center provides groceries, clothing, blankets, coats and paper products to the needy in Summit County.
If you would like to volunteer for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul call Paul Gruic at 330.699.4928. They have monthly meetings in the Parish Life Center on the Second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. If you know someone who needs help, please have them call the parish office at 330.896.2345.
