BEREAVEMENT LUNCHEON About: Queen of Heaven's Bereavement Luncheon Ministry serves the family and friends of the deceased by providing a meal for them on the day of the funeral. With the support of donations from affected families, the Bereavement Ministry caters a luncheon for mourners after a funeral so that families and friends can share this time of remembrance and support. Luncheons include two meats, potatoes, vegetables, apples, salad, rolls, punch, coffee and dessert.
Please notify the parish office as soon as possible regarding funeral arrangements at 330-896-2345. All funerals will be livestreamed on our website for those friends and family members who cannot make it to the funeral Mass.
BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK About: Blessings in a Backpack ministry provides healthy meals to all students in the Green Local Schools Pre-K through 12th grade who are at high risk of hunger over the weekends. The program also provides food to students during the summer with the “Summer Blessings” program. Any family in the Green community who feels they need help in providing food for their children can sign up. During the summer families will receive food boxes every month, and during the school year children will bring home a bag of healthy, easy-to-prepare food. Without Queen of Heaven’s support over the last 12 years, the program would have been unable to service EVERY child who has come to us for food.
Meetings: Want to help? Please place all donated food in the cabinet labeled "Blessings in a Backpack" in the Gathering Space in the back of the church. Packing days are announced in the bulletin. Volunteers meet to pack the backpacks in the maintenance garage at Green Intermediate School across the street from the church.
Most needed items for the school year*: Pasta in a can, individual apple sauce or pudding cups, hearty soups, oatmeal, individual cereal cups or boxes, peanut butter, mac and cheese, low salt Ramen noodles, canned vegetables, beef stew and individual cups of fruit. *DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR WE CAN NOT PASS OUT ANY ITEMS THAT ARE STORED IN GLASS
Most needed items for summer: 46-ounce apple sauce jars, jelly, beef stew, pasta in a can (SpaghettiOs with meat balls), peanut butter, pasta/egg noodles, spaghetti sauce and tuna fish.
CHURCH ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY About: We serve to beautify the church and parish grounds (i.e. adorn the altar area, create and maintain floral arrangements, prepare seasonal displays, clean and dust, tidy up pews and Gathering Space, plant, weed and water the flower beds, decorate statues, maintain the Angel Garden, and recycle plastic candles, glass and cardboard. Do you love flowers and decorating? If so, the Church Environment Ministry needs your help!
CONQUEST FOR BOYS About: A Catholic youth ministry that helps boys, 5-16 years old, to develop their faith, encourage spiritual growth, live Christian virtue, develop character and make a positive difference in the world around them through service.

DIVINE MERCY CENACLE About: Divine Mercy Cenacle is a small faith-sharing group (Cenacle) that studies Jesus' message of Divine Mercy through St. Faustina's Diary, Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The message of Divine Mercy emphasizes and promotes Divine Mercy as more of a devotion and a way of life.
Meetings: Second and fourth Friday, 9:15 a.m. in the Parish Life Center
HOLY NAME SOCIETY About: The Holy Name Society is an active, adult men’s organization for men ages 18 and up. It honors the Holy Name of Jesus through service, social and spiritual events. They assist the parish by supporting events and raising funds for projects and people in the parish, as well as attending the Saturday 4:30 p.m. Mass together once a month and serve as Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors for that Mass.
Members and their wives gather many times a year for socials, including a summer barbecue, and special presentations. We offer to pray the Rosary for any deceased member of the parish at the person’s wake. Some of our recent fundraising efforts included: Purchased the electric sign in front of the church, helped pay for replacing the glass on the church doors and paid for the handrails leading up to the altar. We also run a men's underwear and sock drive once a year to help men in need. Meetings: First Wednesday of the month, 6 p.m. in St. Joseph Hall.
JOURNEY TO PEACE BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT About: For those of any faith having experienced the death of a loved one, this ministry provides information, consolation, spiritual and emotional support. Group members strive to provide Christian support and guidance for daily living; for anyone suffering grief, whether recent or lingering from the past.
Meetings: Usually on Mondays in the fall and spring for six-week sessions, at 7 p.m. Check the parish website and the parish bulletin for upcoming dates.
KOREAN MASS About: Mass celebrated in the Korean language. Mass times: The third Saturday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the church.
LABRE OUTREACH MINISTRY About: Labre is an outreach ministry that prepares food and distributes it to the needy every Thursday.
Meetings and Distribution: The Labre Ministry provide hot meals, groceries, and personal items to families in need, and homeless individuals, on a weekly basis. Volunteers meet in the PLC kitchen every Thursday from 1 - 3p.m. Tasks include hot meal and sandwich preparation, bagging personal care items, sorting clothing, kitchen clean-up and loading the food truck. Six to eight volunteers then head out for distribution from 4 - 5 p.m. Volunteers are also at work earlier in the week visiting the Akron Foodbank, baking desserts at home, preparing donated items for distribution, etc.
Note: We would like to thank everyone who donates to our LABRE outreach (homeless ministry). Donations may be left in the Labre cupboard, in the church Gathering Space. Financial support welcomed with checks payable to Queen of Heaven – LABRE, put it in an envelope and place it in the weekly collection basket (or bring to church office).
LINEN CARE MINISTRY About: This ministry entails the washing/starching/pressing linens and can be done in the convenience of your home. The washing and caring for our Eucharistic Mass Linens can be a prayerful meditation. A great ministry for stay-at-home moms/dads or retired parishioners. Meetings: Weekly commitment for one month at a time
LITTLE ROCK BIBLE STUDY About: A Bible Study group to open the word of God to the hearts and minds of his people. To provide a Catholic approach to the study of Scripture. To provide food, fun and fellowship as we study God's word. To help us become better Christians.
Meetings: Wednesdays, third week of September - December; 7 p.m.
MEALS MINISTRY About: To serve the members of Queen of Heaven Parish through the corporal works of mercy. We care for those in need during times of life changes, including birth of babies, illness, death or other life events by providing meals for them and their family member.
NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING (NFP) About: HEALTHIER LIVING and MARRIAGES VIA NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING NFP (Natural Family Planning) is a healthier lifestyle as you learn your signs of fertility and infertility. More and more couples of all faiths stop using birth control after they learn of the carcinogenic and cancer risks and negative impact on the environment. Couples using NFP appreciate learning this 99% effective method and are known for their strong marriages (less than 5% divorce rate). PASTORAL CARE MINISTRY About: Volunteer on staff and coordinate communion visits to our homebound parishioners and Catholic residents at GreenView and the Gables of Green Senior Living facilities and extended care facilities.
PRAYER CHAIN About: Sign up to offer prayers for others. Prayer requests are sent via email.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY About: The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a “cluster parish ministry” in which several parishes come together to pray, share information and stories of the ministry as well as tips and tricks of crocheting and knitting. A Blessing Prayer is prayed over the shawls completed by the group each month. We end with a prayer remembering those who have received or need to receive a shawl. Our shawls are an outward sign of love and caring --- a hug --- to anyone who needs one. Meetings: Second Tuesday each month, 10 a.m. at Nativity of the Lord Jesus Church, all year
PRO-LIFE MINISTRY About: The Respect Life Ministry comprises of a passionate group of men and women who promote the defense and understanding of the sanctity of every human life from conception to natural death, according to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. We participate in 40 Days for Life, March for Life in Washington, D.C., baby bottle campaign, bake sale fundraisers, Flowers for Life, Death Penalty Awareness, spiritual adoption and more. We always gladly welcome new members.
PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION (PSR) About: Parish school of Religion (PSR), grades Pre-K through 8, offers solid Catholic teachings designed to form active, loving adults.

QUEEN OF HEAVEN/NATIVITY MEN'S GROUP About: Queen of Heaven/Nativity Cluster Men's Group is a Christian men's group for men of all ages. The group fosters spiritual growth and leadership in a Christian family, and also provides fellowship among Christian men. Meetings: September – May, every other Saturday, at 9:15 a.m. (after the 8:30 a.m. Mass) in the Parish Life Center.
ORDER OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (OCIA) About: OCIA is a program of instruction and discernment for adults who wish to join our Catholic Faith Community. The OCIA teams shares in the faith formation process of individuals desiring to enter the Catholic Church through the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation on the Easter Vigil.

ROSARY MAKERS About: The groups makes Rosaries at the church and at home, but package them at church. We pray and fellowship as a group. We have made 169,000 rosaries since 2002.

SCRUPULOSITY (OCD) SUPPORT GROUP About: This group provides a small lesson, inspirational message and confidential sharing. Meetings: Second and fourth Tuesday, 7 - 8:30 p.m. in Church Bride's Room
SEWING N' MORE About: This ministry gathers monthly at Queen of Heaven to sew, socialize and plan and make projects for groups and people within our community. Please join us if you would like be a part of a fun group with a purpose. All skill levels are welcome: sewing, ironing, cutting, planning. But most of all, we welcome YOU!
Meetings: The second and last Wednesday of the month from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Parish Life Center
SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL (MEETINGS) About: Our mission is to assist the needy in our area who have nowhere else to turn for help. We assist with utilities, rent, food, etc. In addition to coordinating the Back-to-School Drive and Giving Tree program at Christmas.
Meetings: Second Monday of the month, 6:30 p.m., year-round in the Parish Life Center
SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL OZANAM CENTER About: The Ozanam Center in Akron, located at the Visitation of Mary Church, 93 Kent Street, Akron, OH 44305, serves the people of our area with food and clothing through volunteers only. The center is only open from 9:30 a.m. to noon. on Saturdays except for holidays (volunteers come a half hour early). New and past volunteers are welcome to help with distribution, especially sorting clothing and bringing it to the clothing room for people to select. Queen of Heaven is one of several parishes that volunteer to help on each Saturday of the month. Our parish is scheduled for specific dates but volunteers can work any Saturday.
SPIRITUAL LIFE COMMISSION About: The Spiritual Life Commission plans and organizes religious experiences in the area of spiritual growth and development of the parish. The commission is open to all parishioners who are knowledgeable or willing to gain knowledge in the different ways people approach and experience God.
Meetings: Last Monday of each month, September - May; 2:30 p.m. in the Regina Caeli Center.
ST. MONICA MINISTRY About: The St. Monica Ministry is both a dedicated community and a prayer network offering hope and support to families and friends of fallen-away Catholics. Like Saint Monica, its members pray, fast and care unconditionally for loved ones who have left the Church. Animated by hope and grounded in faith, we rest secure in the knowledge that, in the words of Saint Monica, “Nothing is far from God.”
Meetings: St. Monica Ministry meets on the second Friday of the month at 9 a.m. in the Bride's Room off the Gathering Space.
HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY About: Our high school youth ministry builds Catholic disciples through food and fellowship, understanding the faith, and encountering Christ.
Meetings: Usually every Sunday during the school year, 12:15 - 2:00 p.m. in the Parish Life Center
YOUNG AT HEART About: This dynamic group is open to all parishioners and non-parishioners ages 55+. They meet monthly for fellowship and joyous times. Activities include speakers, group tours, daytrips, bingo, cards, and food.
